This gorgeous 2023 Matariki Fairy Doll was part of the 2021 collection of NZ Fairies, and is coming back in 2023 because she is so popular.
Matariki is the start of the Maori New Year. In the Māori language, Matariki is both the name of the Pleiades star cluster and the season of its first rising in late June or early July. From 2022, NZ had a new public holiday to mark the start of Matariki. Matariki is a time to look back and remember people who have passed on, as well as events that have happened in the past year, and it is a time to celebrate the new year ahead. It is also a time to come together, share food (kai), keep warm, and share stories. Matariki is an element of maramataka, the ancient Polynesian lunar calendar that synchronises daily activities with the movement of the stars, moon and planets.
Matariki Fairy has cascading golden hair, a sparkling and sequined moonlight dress, and wings featuring stars and the night sky. Absolutely stunning!
All the New Zealand Fairy Dolls have bendable arms and legs, and are approximately 13cm (5 1/8") long. We have stocked them for many years, and customers have built up a collection over time. Each one represents an aspect of New Zealand culture, flora or fauna.
These Fairy Dolls are popular Christmas Decorations, as each one has a fine gold hang cord for it to hang on the Xmas tree. Other people also create imaginative fairy gardens with them.
